Elementary Spanish
Beginning in first grade, students have the opportunity to choose their own Spanish name. Throughout their Spanish studies, this name will help them to really make learning Spanish a positive and personal experience. All students begin the year by reviewing numbers and colors along with basic conversational dialogue. They become more excited about speaking in Spanish as they develop a wider range of vocabulary and as they better understand proper sentence structure through dialogue and interactive lessons. Students are able to comprehend simple stories and hold basic conversations with their friends. They also gain an appreciation for people of different cultures and an interest in hispanic countries. Choco, the hedgehog puppet, is always around to help students realize that learning another language takes some work, but it can be a lot of fun too!
